Two Red Dragon ArticlesGood Eatsby Cindy PearlmanChicago Sun-Times, December 31, 2001(in the Showcase section entitled "Even Hobbits have to wait for 'Star Wars' info") [unrelated info] GOOD EATS: If Hannibal is the main course, she is left as a tasty hors d'oeuvre. She is Emily Watson, the female lead in the remake of "Manhunter," which introduces the world to a certain fine young cannibal. "I've already met with Anthony Hopkins, who loves to come up behind you and make that Hannibal sucking noise," says Watson who adds, "I'm into it, too. The first thing I did when I got the part was buy myself a nice Chianti."
EATS II: Watson plays Rebecca McClaine, the blind girl from the book The Red Dragon. She's joined by Hopkins as Hannibal, Edward Norton as the investigator plus Harvey Keitel as the police chief and Ralph Fiennes as a nutcase. "It's a lot different from the Michael Mann movie 'Manhunter,' which left out so much," Watson divulges. "This is much closer to the book." The movie finds a young Hannibal being arrested by the cops and then helping find Watson who is being held hostage by Fiennes. As for the gore factor, Watson says, "The movie 'Hannibal' was more graphic than our movie. We're telling a story that's much more like 'Silence of the Lambs' in that it left a lot to your imagination." One thing that's piqued our imagination is how Hopkins will play a much younger role. "I'm just pulling the sides of my face taut," he jokes. [unrelated info]Around Townby Sloane BrownBaltimore Sun, December 30, 2001Meanwhile, more stargazing in Charm City.
