Fiennes may see "Red" for RatnerVariety, November 28, 2001NEW YORK (Variety) - Ralph Fiennes is expected to meet with director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour 2) this week to discuss playing serial killer Francis Dollarhyde in Red Dragon. Ted Tally (The Silence of the Lambs) has scripted the adaptation of the Thomas Harris novel for Universal. The role of Dollarhyde was originated by Tom Noonan in
Manhunter, the Michael Mann-directed 1986 adaptation of
Harris' novel, which marked the first film appearance of the
character Hannibal Lecter, played by Brian Cox. Ratner has looked at several actors for the role, including Sean Penn, but the buzz seems
to be centering on Fiennes. The character is the final piece of the
puzzle, with Emily Watson, Harvey Keitel and Philip Seymour Hoffman
set for the other key roles.
