American Psycho

Variety.com (Inside Moves-10/12/98) reports that Christian Bale is being reconsidered for the lead in the film version of Bret Easton Ellis's novel American Psycho (he was taken out of the running when Leonardo Di Caprio expressed interest in the part). What does this have to do with Edward Norton? Well, Variety also reports that Lions Gate Films had discussions with not only Di Caprio, but also Edward Norton and Ewan MacGregor about the film (before going back to Bale). This is the first time I've seen mention of Norton considered for the role of the yuppie serial killer (not that it's surprising after his performance in Primal Fear)

AHX disagreement

The Hollywood Reporter reports more news on American History X. Director Tony Kaye says that Director's Guild violated his First Amendment rights. This stems from the DGA's refusal to grant a pseudonym to Kaye because he made public his desire to have his name taken off the film and that he publicly criticized the film (these two actions violate the DGA contract). AHX dispute, Out of the Past

TNT Rough Cut's Working Hollywood has very good coverage of the disagreements over American History X. It features a description of the events surrounding the rift between director Tony Kaye and New Line Cinema. It also contains question and answers with Edward Norton, Tony Kaye, and New Line's Michael De Luca, along with examples of the hype art ads that Kaye ran in the entertainment trade magazines. Go to TNT's Working Hollywood. For additional background, I've assembled a group of articles following this as well. Go to the articles. Out of the Past will premiere on PBS in October. It is a Sundance-award winning documentary that looks at gay individuals in the past while focusing in on a Utah teenager's struggle to form a Gay Straight Alliance at her high school. Edward Norton, Gwyneth Paltrow, Stephen Spinella, Leland Gantt, Cherry Jones read letters and diaries of some of the historical figures covered in the film. Visit PBS's Out of the Past page. EN and Matt Damon interview

Interview magazine (October issue) has a one page interview with Matt Damon and Edward Norton with the two of them discussing Rounders.

George article

The October issue of George magazine features Edward Norton on the cover. This has been featured in segments on Entertainment Tonight and E! News Daily. The American History X trailer is now available to watch or download at the Loews Trailer Park. There is also a small comparison of Good Will Hunting to Rounders on pg. 18 of Entertainment Weekly (Sept 25 issue).

Fall preview

Access Hollywood had a minute mention of Edward Norton in their weekend edition which featured a "Fall Movie Blowout." A few seconds each of Rounders and American History X were shown in a segment featuring actors with multiple fall movies.

Casting rumor: Groucho movie

Casting news(?): the October issue of Movieline magazine mentions a rumor that Edward Norton, Nicholas Cage, and Jim Carrey are being considered for the lead in an upcoming Groucho Marx biopic written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the screenwriters of The People vs. Larry Flynt and The Man on the Moon (the upcoming Andy Kaufman biopic). Before putting on those Groucho glasses, please keep in mind that this is currently just a rumor. Send an electronic Rounders postcard to someone you know and love (or barely tolerate) at 123 Greetings [Thanks to Joanne for the info on both!]. For an early look at Edward Norton in Groucho attire, don't settle for Movieline's mock pics. Everyone Says I Love You featured a Groucho tribute in the form of a musical number. See a pic of Norton and Drew Barrymore dressed for the occasion that was shown in the January 1997 edition of Premiere magazine along with other pictures taken by (and of) Edward Norton. Go to the Unofficial Edward Norton Website for the feature!

AHX trailer in theaters

You may be able to catch American History X movie trailer in theaters now. It was seen as a preview before New Line's Rush Hour. However, the previews may vary depending on the theaters [Thanks to Joanne]. For a sure thing, go to the Filmcom's Fall Preview- the Good, the Bad, and the Mediocre where you can view (but not save) the American History X trailer (you need a Real Player plug-in). They offer the latest trailer for the movie. An earlier version used to be available at Hollywood Online's American History X section but the link to the trailer was removed. It may still be available on their server. Try for Quicktime version or try for avi version. I created an animated gif for the American History X page so take a look (it's my first animated gif so keep a kind thought in mind).

AHX trailer on TV

The American History X movie trailer is being shown on this week's "Coming Attractions" on the E! channel. Go to the E! Program guide for times.

AHX official website

You can now visit the American History X Official Website. It currently has a short summary and a cast list, but it is very visually distinctive. Miramax is selling Rounders merchandise on their site. Right now they are selling the Rounders movie poster, a t-shirt that has the movie poster on the front, and a limited edition boxed set of Rounders poker chips. Visit the Miramax store! If you do end up paying $345 for the Rounders poker chips, I'm sure you'll have people lining up to play poker with you (but probably not to see the chips). I'm just kidding, of course! But if you do have disposable income, my birthday's in a few weeks...[Thanks to Joanne for the info!]

EN article

Philadelphia Online has an article on Edward Norton Norton's an actor, not a star [Thanks to Joanne for the info!]. If you missed the LA Times Calendar article "Courting Trouble" in the Sunday LA Times and missed its brief appearance on the LA Times website, I will be posting the article soon. However, you will also be subjected to my own commentary on the article.

Rounders opening weekend

There is a new quizlet on the front page. I'm curious to see how what people thought of Rounders, if you braved the opening weekend. Reuters reports that Rounders made the top of the box office at $8.8 million for its opening weekend.

AHX disagreement

The Sunday edition of the LA Times in the Calendar section has a fall movie preview which includes a three page article called "Courting Trouble" on American History X along with a poster of American History X [Thanks to Joanne for the info!]

Rounders coverage

The Los Angeles Times Calendar Now Online has a whole section on Rounders which contains pics from the movie previews, review of the film, stills from Rounders, and audio clips of comments made by the actors and screenwriters Go the LA Times Rounders section. I imagine that the Sunday edition of the LA Times should contain some coverage of Rounders. You might want to take a look.

Primal Fear

TV Guide's Fall Preview issue (Sept 12-18) lists Primal Fear among their Top 10 picks in the Feature Film section. Much of the paragraph on Primal Fear is spent on Norton.

Rounders

Entertainment Weekly (Sept 18 edition) features a story on Matt Damon and a review on Rounders

Rounders website

Miramax has expanded their "Rounders" section. It now contains a sweepstakes page and a poker glossary page. The sweepstakes page allows you to enter to win a trip for two to Las Vegas and one-of-a-kind cased set of ROUNDERS poker chips. Visit Miramax's Rounders section

Rounders interview, Out of the Past

There is a long interview with Edward Norton (with several pictures) on the Mr. Showbiz website. If you live in Los Angeles, Rounders is not the only film opening on Fri Sept. 11 with Edward Norton. Norton is one of several actors (also included are Gwyneth Paltrow, Steven Spinella, Cherry Jones, and Leland Gantt) that read letters and diaries of gay and lesbian historical figures in Jeff Dupre's documentary Out of the Past. The film also deals with the current struggle of Utah teenager Kelli Peterson to found a Gay-Straight Alliance in her high school. The film will be shown in the Grand 4-plex in Los Angeles September 11-17. Find out more about the film

Opinions on AHX disagreement

I am curious how people feel about director Tony Kaye's intention of removing his name from American History X after his disagreement with New Line over the editing. I've added an embedded Quizlet on that page. Go to the page

Rounders articles

Coming to newsstands (if not there already): Time Out New York (Sept 10-17 issue) has a cover article on Edward Norton, the Us Magazine (Oct) has Norton in the Faces and Places section, Premiere magazine (Oct) has a on-set report on Rounders, and Rounders and American History X are both mentioned in New York magazine (Renee Zellweger on cover),

Rounders Q & A

TNT's "Rough Cut" Website has a new feature- Q & As Edward Norton: The Gambler. It also features Rounders in the "A-list" section of their fall preview

Quizlet

I was just thinking of upcoming questions for the Quizlet and came to the following realization: I'm intensely boring (for those of you who have visited this site more than once, this may not have come as such a shock to you). So if you have a Rounders related multiple choice question that could be used on the Quizlet, please email me flatbroke

Quizlet

Two new additions to the website that should be mentioned: Beseen.com provides many free things to websites including "Quizlets." If you came in through the main page, the Quizlet should have emerged as a pop-up window. Please use it once per question. I plan on changing the question every Mon night and posting the results of each on a survey page. I've got a few Rounders questions that you'll see in the upcoming weeks. Which leads me to the next new addition. Since the poker terminology is supposed to be an important part of Rounders, I created a poker terminology page [Note: this has been discontinued due to the emergence of a poker glossary page in Miramax's Rounders section. The poker glossary page also seems to frown on the phrase "poker terminology"].

Rounders articles

There are now two new articles on Edward Norton on Canoe- the Canadian Online Explorer. [NOTE: the new articles ("Hollywood vs. Norton" and "On the Money") have now moved to an archival page (pictures not included) which includes a Feb 1997 article ("Actor shook off his jitters")] Visit all three articles!
